Soc. Siderurgica Glisenti, Turin, Italy.(before 1889) Real Fabbricca D’Armi Glisenti,Brescia, Italy. (after 1889) It is one of the first Italian service revolvers produced. Manufactured by Glisenti at Brescia, original specimens such as this one were well designed and durable. At least sixty varieties of this revolver were made. These revolvers were made in small shops, or on contract, and the actual source of manufacture is often difficult to trace. Those bearing the Glisenti stamp are usually the best finished. The design is based on the Chamelot and Delvigne design having a solid frame with rod ejector that needs to be manually operated. Pirlot Freres from Liege, Belgium were the patentees of the design of the lock-work, named Chamelot/Delvigne, which was improved by Stabsmajor Schmidt. This design of lock-work was used as service weapon in Belgium, France and Italy. It is also the basis of many of the modern American DA revolver designs This example is the 1872 Glisenti type solid frame revolver. The Chamelot/Delvigne trigger mechanism is double action and was further developed by Schmidt. Hammer lift from cartridge and lock in rest. Single loading gate with sliding pin located under the barrel to eject cases. Is this where the design of the famous 1873 Colt’s sliding pin came from? Strangely the Italian military went back to a swivel pin for their next service revolver. Ring below grip for lanyard. It was the Italian, Belgium and French service weapon. It is classified as an antique in the USA.
