CZ Company from the firearm making town Brno made the name BRNO famous, due to their high quality products and the Europeans that could not pronounce the company name. The name that appeared on the receiver that they could pronounce was Brno. This is the PAV single shot target pistol designed and manufactured by F Pavlicek, Brno, Czechoslovakia. Only the name Brno appears on it. The pistol is of very basic design. It has a barrel that swivels from a standing breach similar to the target pistols circa 1880. Instead of a hammer striking a firing pin this pistol has a bolt (striker) that has to be pulled back before it catches on the sear. The trigger let the sear release the bolt which strikes on the firing pin. The sights, sight radius and grips are not as good as modern target pistols. But then it is not known when this pistol was manufactured, which could be before the development of modern target pistols. (ref. ‘Pistols and revolvers’, by JE Smith p620)
